Speaking of Popping One Out

Big honkin deal. It's the year of the GOLDEN pig, as jliaw so eloquently put it. So why do my relatives have to bring up the baby topic at EVERY family get-together? It is so annoying!

I went to dinner with my family by myself again, without my significant other, because he manages to always have a good excuse for not coming (MBA study group, conference call with India, he's in California, yadayadayada...). My cousin who's a year older than me just gave birth to her second child 2 weeks ago. She started popping them out within a year of getting married. She's also the first in our generation to start having kids, so you'd think that she'd have me covered for at least 2 years, but no, the comments continue to flow like a leaky faucet.

Now that my brother and my cousin are married, they get to share in the wealth of baby comments, so in a way, I'm glad I'm not the only one getting the brunt of it from the relatives, but if I hear them say my parents want to be grand parents again, I think I'm gonna recluse myself from future family functions.

It's not that I don't want children, but it's a life-changing event that I would like to do on my own time, and I could do without the constant nagging. My brother's come-back today was "kids cost money", but then that was shot down when his mother-in-law practically begged to give them money to have a child! Geez.
